Capillary-free area of the fovea with advancing age.

چکیده
The mean diameter of the capillary-free zone of the fovea was measured on fluorescein angiograms of 167 eyes of 158 patients. In all eyes examined, a clear-cut capillary-free area was found, although in a few cases one or two capillaries crossing the avascular zone were seen. There was a considerable individual variation in each age group. The mean diameter of the capillary-free zone was 0.53 mm. in patients between 10 and 39 years of age and 0.61 mm. after the age of 40. This difference is statistically highly significant (p less than 0.001), indicating some occlusion or atrophy of the macular capillaries by age, but no further increase in the mean diameter of the avascular zone was observed during the fifth decade or later. Findings in the two youngest patients, 12 and 22 months of age, were roughly comparable with those observed in adults.

Abstract* Introduction: Visual system have been considered as among important sensory system in animals’ life span and their survival is closely related to normal visual system functioning. Since in previous studies it have been revealed that morphine consumption during pregnancy could lead to defect and delay in nervous system development in the embryos, in the present study, changes induc...

Purpose: To report a case of solar retinopathy following methamphetamine (MA) abuse. Case report: A 37-years-old man was visited with sudden painless loss of vision in both eyes. He was addicted to methamphetamine for three years. He used MA at the day of admission. Excessive sun gazing (4 hours) took place due to using hallucinations secondary to the MA. Visual acuity was 15/400 Snellen chart ...

متن کاملParafoveal OCT Angiography Features in Diabetic Patients without Clinical Diabetic Retinopathy: A Qualitative and Quantitative Analysis
PURPOSE To evaluate the capacity of OCT angiography (OCTA) for detecting infraclinical lesions in parafoveal capillaries in diabetic patients without diabetic retinopathy (DR). METHODS This prospective observational cross-sectional case-control study analyzed the superficial and deep capillary plexuses (SCP and DCP) on macular OCTA scans (3 × 3 mm) centered on the fovea. We compared 22 diabet...

PURPOSE To assess the optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) retinal vessel density and foveal avascular zone (FAZ) in children with type 1 diabetes (T1D) and compare potential pathologic early changes in this population to healthy age-matched controls. METHODS This study included 130 pubescent children: 94 with T1D (188 eyes) and 36 of their age-matched control group (60 eyes). OCTA...
